Turkey is to create a military base in Qatar, the official Turkish state gazette announced on 8 June.
The move forms part of an agreement signed between Turkey and Qatar on co-operation in military training, defence industry, and the deployment of the Turkish Armed Forces in the territory of Qatar. Under the agreement, Turkey will use ports, airports, and air space as well as Qatari military facilities.
NATO-member Turkey has previously signed two separate military and defence industry co-operation agreements with Qatar in 2007 and in 2012. The most recent agreement was enacted into law in March and also envisages a joint fight against terrorism.
